Avaaz is a non-governmental organization that is based in the United States, and its main agenda is to be activists on issues which are affecting people globally such as animal rights, human rights, climate change and more. Avaaz uses methods such as demonstrations and petitions in their quest for justice.
Avaaz was launched in New York in the year 2007, but now it is an international organization. The founding president who is also the CEO of Avaaz is known as Ricken Patel. Ricken got a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University after studying PPE (politics, philosophy, and economics) at Balliol College, Oxford University. During his time in Avaaz, Patel has gained experience on how to use online tools for activism, for example, online public petitions, videos, and emails.
Avaaz organization has both groups and individual cofounders. The groups that co-founded Avaaz include Res Publica and MoveOn.org while the individuals include Ricken Patel, Tom Pravda, David Madden and a few more.
A newspaper known as The Guardian has named Avaaz as the globe’s largest and most powerful online activist network. Avaaz has a team of campaigners working from different countries such as UK, India, Lebanon, and Brazi. These teams usually manage international campaigns.
The group of campaigners keeps in contact with the use of email to come up with new campaign tactics. Campaign suggestions are done by the members and a team of specialists.
Avaaz has been in the forefront of supporting different issues, for example, the civil uprising about the Syrian Civil War. The 2009 Iranian presidential elections joined the campaign against Donald Trump during the US presidential election in 2016. This was achieved through the production a software tool that makes overseas registration easy and in September 2017, Avaaz went to the British High Court of Justice to legally oppose 21st Century Fox decision to take over Sky plc.
