Richard Liu Qiangdong Gives A Comprehensive Interview About JD.com During The 2018 World Economic Forum

 

Richard Liu is a renowned businessman who has made an undeniable mark in the e-commerce space. His reputation and success stem from the establishment of one of the biggest e-commerce platforms in China, JD.com. Back in January 2018, Richard Liu Qiangdong attended the 48th Annual World Economic Forum in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland.

During the WEF meeting, Richard Liu Qiangdong took part in an interview with David M. Rubenstein, the co-executive chairperson and co-founder of The Carlyle Group. In the interview, “An Insight, An Idea” with Richard Liu, Jingdong’s CEO said that attending the Davos-held meeting allowed him to listen to different voices from all over the world.

Richard Liu gave an insight into his business journey and personal life. He started a business in 1998 after culminating his sociology degree at the Renmin University and an EMBA from the renowned China Europe International Business School. While in the university, Richard Liu devoted some of his time to learning computer programming. Before embarking on his successful entrepreneurial journey, he worked for Japan Life, a company that sells medical products.

The SARS epidemic hit Richard Liu’s business, causing both customers and his staff to stay house-bound. To overcome this setback, Richard Liu decided to close down all the 12 stores and directed his attention to e-commerce business under the name Jingdong. During the interview, he also revealed that JD.com looks forward to topping the e-commerce industry in the oncoming years, as it already has the necessary technology, logistics, and financing.

According to Richard Liu Qiangdong, customers do not have to be in China to receive their ordered goods. Jingdong Mall delivers to various parts of the globe including New York, Paris, and London. What ’s more, he said that fashion, food and consumer goods are some of the company’s hottest commodities.
